Hi
Are there any Expat´s living in Carinthia - couple here (no it´s not me!) seeking Expat group as they don´t feel they can cope with life here in general without being able to speak to anyone from Blighty.

Let me know if you are aware of one.

Hi, Sweetie

We are a couple who have a property in Steindorf (Ossiachersee). We also know of a couple near to Fakersee. Whilst they have been living there for a few years now - we will not be full time "Expats" for another year.

We bumped into them whilst property hunting 18 months ago and it certainly made everything so much easier - having someone to point you in the right direction for all the minor things that makes mthe transition an easier one!

Cheers

Hello Imp,

Welcome to our forum.

We are keen to get a good regular input from those with an interest in Kärnten as this forum is not exclusive to those who live on the north side of the Alps.  We all understand why there are so many members in the northern regions but we would really like a better balance if we can.

The more content and references made to things in the Kärnten area - the more it gets picked up by the search engines - and the more local members we get.  Therefore, comments about lakes, ski areas, pictures uploaded, towns and villages information, festivals etc all help to make our forum more and more interesting.

David.

Hi, there

Does anyone have experience of bringing a motor vehicle in Austria (Carinthia, in our case!) and getting it re-registered?

I have heard anecdotal evidence that it is a prohibitively expensive excercise - but real experiences would be welcome. There is an obvious attraction in this, as the costs of cars and motorcycles for that matter do appear to be much higher here than elsewhere in the EU.

Help, anyone?

Regards

Hi,
Take a look in the 'ask a question' section. There is an old post there which gives a very comprehensive answer although it is based on someone bringing a car to register in Bad Ischl. It does look complicated and expensive though. Good luck

Hi there

We have been living in Carinthia for about 6 years now near BKK and there are quite a few other expats that we know of within our area. If you fancy a chat or coffee, drop us a line.

regards

john

We are from Australia (I guess they're not many Aussies in Austria  Huh) and have been looking for a property in Carinthia for quite some time. As our exchange rate is not that appealing, we wouldn't mind renovating the house to make it livable (as much as we can ourselves).

Does anyone know, for example how difficult/bureaucratic and how much it would cost to get approval from the local council to put in a bathroom? I would appreciate if anyone can give some guidance or if you had any personal experiences (good or bad) that you can share with us.

many thanks
Sorina

Hi Sorina
I am afraid you are wrong - I have just viewed properties with a guy from Australia and there is also a Hotel in the locality being run by a couple from Australia so no problems if you want to feel at home.  Sheep we don´t have too many of though.
If I can help with your search for a suitable property then please don´t hesitate to contact me.  As long as you are not wanting to building something totally out of keeping or with materials that do not meet with local regulations then putting in a bathroom should post no problems.

Have you actually found a house in which you wish to build a bathroom or are you still looking?

Look forward to hearing from you.
