No-one ever mentions Gaißau-Hintersee.
This ski resort is between Fuschl am See and Hof on the way to Salzburg.
It takes half an hour or so to get there but it takes that to drive up the Postalm Mautstrasse or to get to Rußbach Dachstein-West.
There are about 20 km of nice easy piste and a further 20 km of middle grade skiing. It's super for snowboarders and no "hooray Henries" as it's Salzburgs' own private back yard. Very few outsiders.
There are nine lifts including a two person chair and a four person chair
See
http://www.gaissauhintersee.at/index.html Good mountain huts, and if you approach from the Krispl side there is a two person chair lift at the top of which there is a great hut with a beginners button lift so when snow is short low down you can teach your kids high up. You then ski all the way back down to your car on an easy blue.
If you are here for a few days - buy a two or three days pass and give it a go.
I always tell it as it is
