I learned today (Oct 25th) that the Postalm is no longer included on the Dachstein-West pass.  If you look at both websites you will see that that appears to be the case.

Therefore, for regulars who used to buy a Dachstein-West pass and use it on the Postalm, this year you would need to buy a season pass for both.  That would mean about 200€ for the Postalm and 300+€ for a Dachstein pass and that doesn't make any sense.

You would be better advised to buy a Salzburger Super Ski Card before December 4th for 540€ which includes both ski areas and also gives you massive skiing from Schladming to Kitzbühel.

I also heard that the road toll for the Postalm is being increased to 10€.  I cannot confirm that as yet as that has a serious bearing on relatives and friends who don't ski.

I know what I shall do.    Grin

Found the same thing out a few days ago when getting plans sorted for the winter season. We've been looking at the Upper Austria Snow and fun card   take a look at http://www.wintersport.at/snow-fun-card.html

This is nowhere near as costly as the Salzbugersuper ski  and it includes Dachstein West, Krippenstein ( which isn't on the Salzburgersuper ski) Feuerkögel ( again not on the superski) Kasberg, Hinterstoder, Wurstalm and Hochflicht.  It is 325€ if bought before 8th December.

Feuerkögel have had a major investment programme this year and have put in new lifts -so should be worth a try. Kasberg is the other side of Gmunden and is an easy drive from the Bad Ischl area. Easy flat roads, no mountain passes or tolls and a really good range of skiing when you get there. There certainly is a better range of blue runs than at Dachstein West, so it could be a good alternative to Postalm.

Worth taking a look at

Mmmmmmm.

Hochficht is right on the Czech border and about two hours drive.
Feuerkogel is having a bundle of money spent this year on a new gondola and they are lengthening some pistes.  For the most part there is little there for beginners and the terrain is quite steep and usually icy.  The venison in the gasthof is good though.
Hinterstoder and Würzeralm are also miles away.  You first need to travel to Liezen (One hour) then take the A9 motorway towards Linz and then turn back on yourself up the valley to Hinterstoder.  A good hour and a half in all I guess.
That doesn't really leave much choice.  Sad

This is really disappointing news. It will put a lot of people off using the Postalm. We used it a lot when we have been a mixed bunch with some non-skiers and it is so good for beginners. I guess we will just buy by the half day in future. They may lose a lot of business. No doubt David will find out what the thinking is behind it!!
The kasberg area lokks interesting---may try it this year.

No-one ever mentions Gaißau-Hintersee.

This ski resort is between Fuschl am See and Hof on the way to Salzburg.

It takes half an hour or so to get there but it takes that to drive up the Postalm Mautstrasse or to get to Rußbach Dachstein-West.

There are about 20 km of nice easy piste and a further 20 km of middle grade skiing. It's super for snowboarders and no "hooray Henries" as it's Salzburgs' own private back yard. Very few outsiders.
There are nine lifts including a two person chair and a four person chair

See

Good mountain huts, and if you approach from the Krispl side there is a two person chair lift at the top of which there is a great hut with a beginners button lift so when snow is short low down you can teach your kids high up.  You then ski all the way back down to your car on an easy blue.

If you are here for a few days - buy a two or three days pass and give it a go.

I always tell it as it is  Wink
